Wellfleet
Wellfleet was the first town that I lived in on Cape Cod. I got a summer job with a group of my childhood friends at the National Seashore. I was introduced to what has become one of my favorite towns on the Cape. It is out there! Only Truro and Provincetown are further. Wellfleet has an island feel to me. Protected from overdevelopment by the National Park, the town has a slower pace to it than the mid-cape.
Wellfleet stretches from ocean to ocean and is divided by the single lane ( and only main road) Route 6. The ocean to the north is protected by Jeremy Point and circles around Wellfleet Harbor. The calm shores of the bayside are very different from the South coast of Wellfleet. The towns passed the elbow ( Chatham ) of The Cape face the open Atlantic Ocean. This stretch has cliffs and at times a surfable tide.
Wellfleet has some unique and famous attractions to New England.
